DELTA WROTE BACK…
Thank you for sharing your recent travel experience. On behalf of Delta
Air Lines, I sincerely apologize for the video broadcasted on our
flight.
As a public carrier, the showing of movies and videos presents us with a
unique challenge. I understand the frustration you experienced when you
saw the video on our flight. Although programming has been edited for
an airline audience, films may contain material not suitable for
everyone. Viewer discretion is recommended. We strive to offer a
variety of entertainment choices across multiple genres. With that in
mind, content does not necessarily reflect the views of Delta Air Lines.
I am truly sorry if the movie shown contained material that was
offensive to you. Customer feedback is important to us. Be assured
your comments will be shared with our Global Product leadership team.
As a gesture of apology for the less than satisfactory video shown on
our flight, I have added 4,000 bonus miles to your SkyMiles account.
Please allow three business days for the miles to appear.
Mrs. Garbett, I hope I have been able to address your concern about our
the content played on our flight. As our valued Silver Medallion, your
business is important to us and given the opportunity of serving you in
the future, I am confident Delta will not only meet but exceed your
expectations.
I RESPONDED with something similar to the thoughts below:
I appreciate your reply. You sounded sincere and empathetic. Your recompense of 4000 miles I’d gladly give up for a response from your Global Product leadership team informing me that you will be more responsible in what you show on your flights. Please ask them what constitutes an airline audience? Are children part of that?
I recall when smoking was allowed on flights. We have finally come to our senses of the harm that inflicted on all and in particular of those who chose not to smoke. The “second-hand-smoke” of yesterday’s flights is now obscenity on a public screens.
Please explain how a responsible corporation can deny accountability with the statement “Viewer discretion is recommended.” I cannot turn off an offensive show that is 12 seats in front of me or strain my neck to constantly look over my shoulder across my neighbor out the tiny window for escape.
Am I supposed to cover my eyes and beg the innocent child in the seat next to me to please inform me when the woman has ceased her sexual advances?
Delta has taught us all “smoking is not allowed,” and made their safety presentation something worth watching. Please do not insult or inflict us with this type of offensive, sexualized media on your flights which makes women objects and disregards the important audience on your flight: children.
